Honey
- Nature's Liquid Gold
Honey has
been valued for its healing properties as well as its delicious sweetness
for over four thousand years. Records from ancient Egypt reveal over 500
medicinal formulas and remedies based on honey, whilst the Greeks used
it to cure skin disorders, as well as to add its rich sweetness to a wide
variety of foods and beverages.
Now, recent
research has shown that they may have had the right idea. Honey has been
shown to contain small amounts of a wide array of vitamins, minerals,
amino acids and antioxidants which have shown to have beneficial and healing
properties for the skin. The vitamins found in honey may include (depending
on floral variety) Niacin, Riboflavin and Pantothenic acid; minerals present
include Calcium, Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Potassium
and Zinc. Just as the colour and flavour of honey varies by floral source,
so does the vitamin, mineral, antioxidant and amino acid content.
Honey also
has anti-bacterial properties which have been shown to help clear infections
in wounds, reduce pain and reduce scarring. Its ability to lock moisture
into the skin is another reason for its popularity as an ingredient for
beauty products.
Our edible Acacia honey is imported from Hungary. This honey remains runny for long periods of time due to its high concentration of fructose. Its light in colour and has a light, delicate, vanilla flavour.
The honey
in our beauty products is collected from 1800 colonies which are situated
throughout the Scottish Borders and Northumberland, so there are different
floral sources, however the majority comes from heather pollen. The Robson
family has been diligently and lovingly producing honey for over 50 years
at Chain Bridge Honey farm and we are proud to be a selected distributor
of their high quality natural beauty products.
Caution:
Some studies suggest that eating honey may cause adverse reactions in
very young babies, and we therefore do not recommend it for babies under
one year of age.
